In previous posts I have documented how we occasionally feature local scenes in Hi and Lois. Both Chance Browne and I live in Wilton, Connecticut and some of the locations we have shown are the Silvermine Market, the Silvermine Golf Club, Orem’s Diner, Wilton Center and the Cobbs Mill Inn.

Back to School Blues

Many schools started classes a few weeks ago and others begin on Tuesday, after Labor Day. In 1996, Chip Flagston was bemoaning his return to academic life in this Sunday page.

Chance Browne is an accomplished blues guitarist, so we enjoy doing episodes that show Chip’s musical side. Here is a photo of Chance with one of his many guitars.

The Tracy Twins – 1957

Three years after Hi and Lois started, Dik Browne moved his family from 106 Rynda Road in South Orange, New Jersey to 85 Rivergate Drive in Wilton, Connecticut.

Dik’s studio was in the basement of the house in Wilton. “It was a very informal set up, not meant for public viewing – a private workshop,” Chance Browne recollected. “It was right next to the laundry and all of the chaos that engenders coming and going. He would just get up early and stay up late every day. He was pretty much a full time worker. If he was awake, he was at the table.”
