In the vintage seasonal Sunday page above, Chip, Dot and Ditto are complaining about raking leaves which gets them into a discussion about how Hi and Lois are slacking off on their responsibilities.  Hi explains that the government is encouraging parents to be tougher on their kids and the episode ends with a political statement from Chip.

Although many students have already returned to school, most go back in the next two weeks. The final days of summer vacation mean different things to different people, as this Sunday page demonstrates.

Dot is a very studious young girl who does her homework on time, gets straight “A”s on her report card and actually looks forward to going back to school in the fall. Ditto doesn’t get as good grades as his sister and dreads the thought of being cooped up in a classroom again.

This Sunday page appeared in newspapers long before kids had video games and computers to play with. In the early 1960s, Dot and Ditto didn’t know what they were missing. They had a console television to watch, a phonograph for listening to records and many traditional toys, including a ball, a jack-in-the-box, blocks, a ring-toss game and a spinning saucer.
