Timeline – 2000 Part 1

A day at the beach is a good way to spend Labor Day weekend.  The Flagston family makes the trip to the shore almost every summer for some relaxation and recreation.

In the episode above, the twins have built an elaborate sand castle with a throne for their baby sister.

Timeline – 1998 Part 2

Hi and Lois Sunday page digital proof, June 7, 1998.

This is one of my favorite pages from the late 1990s.  It was reproduced in the 2005 book Hi and Lois Sunday Best.  The original art was also featured in the 2014 exhibition King of the Comics at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum in Columbus, Ohio and is now in their permanent collection.

The National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Awards were held this weekend in Memphis, Tennessee. NCS President Bill Morrison asked cartoonists to do a special Memphis-themed drawing to be used as a centerpiece for each table at the awards dinner. The original art for these has been and will be auctioned off to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. In addition, the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau donated $10,000 to the NCS for the rights to use these cartoons on their web site and in brochures to promote the city.
