Hi and Lois Sunday page color proof, May 8, 1960.
The Sunday page above is another classic nostalgia trip from the team of Mort Walker and Dik Browne. Mr. Foofram, who is Hi Flagston’s boss, is looking back at the good old days when life was simpler.
He runs Foofram Industries, which manufactures fooframs of all kinds (whatever those are). He inherited the business from his father and if it weren’t for his position, no one would take him seriously. He sits at an ornate throne in his office and vainly tries to get his employees to do his bidding. He is the quintessential small man in a big job – a lot of power but not very much wattage.

Most of the leaves are on the ground in New England now, so it’s clean up time. This is one of Hi Flagston’s least favorite household chores. When I was a young boy, my father made me help with the leaf raking, so I dread this job as much as Hi does. Many years ago, I hired my neighbor’s son to clean up my yard every year. This has saved my balky back.
It is a beautiful spring weekend here in New England and golfers are hitting the links again. The start of the season is a time for optimism. It might take a few rounds to get back into form. Will bad habits return? Will swing adjustments made at the driving range lead to better scores? The only way to find out is to play.
