Back in Business

King Features has been overhauling our web site for the past few weeks which gave me some much needed time off. It’s been a grueling winter here in the Northeast. There are huge frozen mounds of icy snow everywhere and the temperatures have been frigid. We are looking forward to a major thaw followed by the beginning of spring.

New Year’s Resolutions

The beginning of a new year is a good time for making reforms and setting goals for the future.  The tradition of new year’s resolutions goes back to the ancient Babylonians who promised their gods to pay debts and return favors at the start of each year.

Smoking is a bad habit that is hard to treat humorously.  In the mid-1960s, Hi and Lois co-creator Mort Walker was trying to give up smoking cigarettes.  It took him eight months to quit.

Sundays in Spring

This is a time for renewal after the dreary days of winter.  Spring also provides a great opportunity to do some beautiful scenery in Hi and Lois.

For many years, King Features mailed out full-color, Sunday-page proofs to their artists.  We have a set of these for Hi and Lois, which cover the years from 1956 to 1970.  They are printed on heavy-coated stock and the colors are brilliant.
