Timeline – 2006 Part 2

In this episode, we had fun imagining the early love life of Hi and Lois, back when they first started dating.

I was a teenager in the 1960s, before cell phones, dating apps and social media.  The guy would usually call his prospective partner on the phone and ask her out.  I always got nervous not knowing what the answer would be.  What to wear was always a challenge for the girls. Blue jeans and a sweater?  A dress with fancy shoes?  My father had an antique MG sports car that I never got to drive.  Instead I took the family station wagon. Typical destinations were movie theaters, parties, dances or restaurants.  We would talk over dinner, go for a romantic stroll and end the date with a good night kiss.  I remember these times fondly.

When I was a teenager back in the 1960s, I used to go out on “dates.” Before I got my driver’s license this usually involved inviting a girl to meet me at a local movie theater or pizza place.  When I started driving, I could pick her up at her house and take her places, like restaurants, dances or parties.

Chip Flagston came of age in the 1960s. He went from making excuses about not finishing his homework to riding his bike to the library to meet his girlfriend. He’s old enough to be curious about the opposite sex but too young to get into serious trouble.
